Our services Training November 2017 - Supporting Children and Young People Affected by Life Threatening Illness and Bereavement In Britain over 24,000 children are bereaved of a parent each year, whilst statistics for 2012 show there were 338,623 new diagnoses of cancer. Therefore, as a professional, during the course of your work it is likely you will come into contact with a child living with the impact of a life limiting illness within their family or a child who has been bereaved. Children & young people’s worlds may be shattered when someone close to them is seriously ill or has died. Their ability to cope and their overall resilience will be influenced by a number of factors; the nature of illness, the circumstances of the death, family relationships, the age of the child and the responses of people around them. The day is suitable for professionals who support children & young people in a variety of settings, including health, education and social care. Aim To enable participants to understand the impact of serious illness and bereavement on children and young people and to feel more confident when supporting them. Learning Outcomes By the end of the day participants will: Have a basic level of understanding of the theories of grief & loss Be aware of the factors which affect how children & young people cope with loss Have an awareness of the impact of serious illness and bereavement on the daily lives of children & young people Have identified ways in which they can support and communicate with children & young people affected by the life threatening illness of someone close to them or bereavement Feel more confident to support children & young people Understand the impact on self when working with issues of loss and bereavement Course Details Date: 23rd November 2017 Time: 9:30 – 3:00 (Registration from 9:00) Venue: Open Learning Centre, BracknellCost: £130 (to include Course Hand-outs, a CPD Certificate, refreshments and a light lunch) How to Book Places for this course are available to book online, please see below.
