Ten brave volunteers for Daisy’s Dream have just completed a jaw-dropping 94m descent of the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth – raising in incredible £4,300 for this local children’s bereavement support charity.

Each of the ten volunteers – some of whom are truly terrified of heights – donned a helmet and harness and stepped off a tiny platform high above Portsmouth’s docks, to dangle on a rope and then abseil almost 100m down the tower wall. The volunteers came from three of the charity’s corporate supporters from Reading, plus one of their own fundraisers tackled the challenge too.

The group consisted of Claire Eggleton, Rachel Jannaway, Chis Nixon and Dan Shorey from long-time supporter Huntswood; Alan King, Managing Director of Syntegra Group with his colleague Joe Sawyer; Lucy Clarke, Leanne Green and Carrie Jones from The Co-operative Childcare Reading; and Claire Rhodes, Fundraiser for Daisy’s Dream.

Claire Rhodes commented, “I spend my working days encouraging and supporting others in fundraising challenges like this, and I thought it was about time I put my money where my mouth is and joined our wonderful supporters who bravely push their boundaries to help us raise much-needed funds. I was totally terrified at first, but it was an awesome experience and I’m so glad I did it. I encourage others to sign up for our next one! It was also very important to me to raise lots of sponsorship as I know just how much the funds raised by everyone will mean to Daisy’s Dream and to the children it will enable us to support through the death of someone close to them. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and those who sponsored us all.”

Daisy’s Dream’s Director, Gill Stevens, added, “Claire and all our abseil team did a brilliant job and we’re very grateful, as this is a significant portion of the £400,000 we need to raise right now to fund our unique professional advice and support service. Last year we supported 722 children and their families in Berkshire and we couldn’t do it without this amazing support we get from the community.”
