Daisy’s Dream | Dying Matters Awareness Week 2025

Dying Matters Awareness Week (Monday 5th May – Sunday 11th May) is a campaign dedicated to encouraging open conversations about death, dying, and grief. Many of us avoid these conversations, unsure of what to say or afraid of saying the ‘wrong’ thing. This week is all about breaking down those barriers and making space for honest, compassionate discussions about loss.

Why Does This Matter?

At Daisy’s Dream, our vision extends beyond our direct work with bereaved children and young people. We want to see a society where talking about grief is normal and not taboo, so that everyone can feel supported in times of loss.

Did you know?
Every day in the UK, 111 children experience the death of a parent.
– By the time they turn 16, 1 in 29 children will have lost a parent or sibling.

These numbers highlight just how important it is to break the stigma surrounding conversations about death. The more we talk about it, the easier it becomes for those experiencing grief to feel heard, understood, and supported.

Our Values at Daisy’s Dream

During this important week, we want to share the core values that shape everything we do:

  • Compassion & Kindness – We treat everyone with care and understanding.
  • Empathy & Responsiveness – We listen, acknowledge, and offer the right support
  • Welcoming & Supportive – We create a safe space for every individual.
  • Knowledge & Individuality – We recognise that every person’s grief journey is unique.
Let’s Keep the Conversation Going

This Dying Matters Awareness Week, let’s commit to talking, listening, and supporting each other with compassion. You don’t need the perfect words, just being there, acknowledging grief, and offering a listening ear can make all the difference. Together, we can create a world where no child, no family, and no individual has to navigate grief alone.
