Family Stories

Jake

Jake is 13 years old and lives with his father and two younger siblings. Daisy’s Dream first became involved with the family when his mum was given 2 months to live. During this time we visited the family home, provided reassurance to the mother about how the children would cope following her death and spoke with the school about ways they could help the family. Jake came along to our Serious Illness group where we work with children preparing for a loss. Here he met other young people in a similar situation. He was able to ask us questions and share with others ideas of how they could manage through such a traumatic time. Daisy’s Dream have continued to support Jake and his family following the death of his mum. He now has 1:1 support from one of our practitioners in school and his dad is able to attend our parents group too.

It is essential that Daisy’s Dream can offer this level of support for families like Jake’s. Being able to work with the whole family, preparing for loss and following the bereavement has meant that they have felt listened to and cared for through some of the most difficult times. We know that with this support they will be able to move forwards together.
