Leaving a gift to Daisy’s Dream in your Will: Your legacy 

Leave a gift in your Will to Daisy’s Dream and you will make sure that we will be there for children, young people and their families in the most difficult of times. The death or serious illness of someone close can have a devastating effect on a child or young person. With the right support and information however, children and young people can be helped to understand what has happened and learn to move forward in a positive way.

We believe that no child’s future should be defined by a death or a life-limiting illness within their family. Given time and support, children and young people can learn to cope with the changing dynamics of their life and ultimately move forwards in a positive way. So, after providing for your loved ones, please consider leaving some of what remains to Daisy’s Dream; it will make a huge difference to children and young people in your local community.  

We understand that deciding to leave a gift in your Will to any charity is a personal, private and important decision. If you do decide to include Daisy’s Dream in your Will though, it is helpful for us to know so that we can plan ahead and keep in touch with you should you need any further information.

How should it be written? 

Your solicitor will be familiar with the wording required to leave a gift in your Will. However, please find below some suggested wording your solicitor may wish to use. Unfortunately, our fundraising team aren’t able to offer legal advice, so please ask your solicitor for any further information.  

Wording for a residuary gift (a percentage) 

'I give my Residuary Estate [residuary estate will need to have been defined elsewhere in the Will and is a gift made after deductions of debts, taxes and expenses, which usually fall on residue] to Daisy’s Dream, PO Box 4738, Twyford, Reading, Berkshire RG10 9GT, registered Charity Number: 1177145.’ 

Wording for a Pecuniary gift (a specified amount) 

'I give the sum of [£ in words and numbers] absolutely to Daisy’s Dream, PO Box 4738, Twyford, Reading, Berkshire RG10 9GT, registered Charity Number: 1177145 and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or any other proper authorised officer of any charity benefitting under my Will shall be a sufficient discharge for my Trustees who shall not be concerned as to the application of any gifts or payment.' 

Does a gift left in a Will need to be a large amount to make a difference? 

Every single gift left to us will make a positive difference to the future of Daisy’s Dream and the lives of the children, young people, and families that we work with. Although some of the legacy gifts we have received are large ones, the majority are not, and it is what these gifts can achieve that makes them so important and so appreciated. It usually costs us around £700 to support one family throughout the duration of them needing us. All of our support is built around the needs of each family, which are different every time - each child is unique and responds to bereavement in their own way. So, it costs more for some families, and less for others, but what we do know is that each time we step in with support, it makes a difference, just as your legacy gift would, whatever the amount.   

Using a legacy gift for a specific area of our work  

We are unable to put your legacy gift towards a particular area of our work, because we operate in a way that means everything that we do is important and is done with supporting children, young people and their families in our local communities front of mind. But we can promise you that your gift will be put to very good use and enable our team of Therapeutic Practitioners to continue their one-to-one, personal support and guidance with every child or young person that comes to us, helping them to move forward in a way, and at a pace, that works best for them.

That will be your legacy.  

As you may know, we have worked across Berkshire and the surrounding areas for the past twenty-five years, supporting local children, young people and their families. More recently we have extended our services to Cheshire East. If you decide to include Daisy’s Dream in your Will, please specify which area; Berkshire or Cheshire East, you would like your gift to go towards, as it helps us to make sure we are carrying out your wishes exactly as you decide.
