‘New Family Space Officially Open’

On Monday 30th September, Daisy’s Dream formally opened their new offices and family space from their premises in Lower Earley.

Joined on the day by supporters to celebrate this new era for Daisy’s Dream it was great to reflect on where Daisy’s Dream has grown from and look forwards to what is planned for the future. Television presenter Simon Thomas formally cut the ribbon and spoke about the support he received when his wife died suddenly in 2017 from a rare form of blood cancer, describing the help he received from Daisy’s Dream as ‘Game changing’ for him and his young son. It was also great to welcome new MP for Earley and Woodley Yuan Yang and the Mayor of Earley, Mike Smith.

Founded in 1996, Daisy’s Dream provides support for children and young people who have been affected by bereavement, either supporting them in preparing for a loss or working with them following the death of someone important to them. This is done through a combination of 1:1 and group support, as well as advice and help for parents, carers and professionals. All support is free of charge, with the charity having to raise around £480k a year to provide this essential service.

The family space which has been in use since May has already benefitted many children and families with one to one sessions and group support now being delivered here. CEO Laura Lewis explains the difference that this is making,

“The individual and group sessions that we have been delivering from our office space is helping a number of children and families to receive support from us more quickly. Having a dedicated space means we can invite people to be seen sooner and groups can be delivered more frequently. Our parents group is growing in terms of numbers attending which is great to see. As a small charity that covers a large area bringing some of our services together in one location is also helping with regards to our own organisational efficiencies which is also an added bonus. We were thrilled to welcome so many people to the official opening of this space and look forward to expanding some of what we offer here in due course ”
