Our Trustees

Could you be our next Trustee?

Established in 1996, Daisy’s Dream is a charity that supports children and young people who have been affected by the bereavement or serious illness of someone close to them. We are a small, locally based organisation with big ambitions and as a member of our Trustee Board you are able to make a huge difference to the many children that require our support each year.

We’re looking to recruit two new Trustees to join our board as our charity enters an exciting phase of innovation and growth.

Why apply?

We are a small charity with eight Trustees and fifteen members of staff, who are all committed to the future success of Daisy’s Dream.

The role of the Trustee, which is wholly voluntary (not remunerated), is to ensure the financial viability of the charity, manage the risks and develop the strategy.  Trustees meet quarterly at our offices, currently in Twyford from 6.30 – 8.30pm. It is also possible to attend meetings virtually for some of the time. Trustees are invited to be involved in supporting our team across a range of functions within the charity and we would welcome conversations around this.

What are we looking for?

Daisy’s Dream is looking for Trustees from a range of backgrounds and is committed to a diverse and inclusive board.

New Trustees will join a high performing and hard-working board and will be keen to increase the profile of our stakeholders on the board.  Ideally they will have experience/a background in one of the following areas:

  • Social care or nursing
  • Education
  • Financial
  • Local commercial experience (business network)

If you would like to join Daisy’s Dream as a Trustee, please send a short (no longer than one page) letter explaining your interest, together with your CV, to Laura Lewis, CEO, at [email protected]  by 31st March 2023.

Terry Murphy

Chair of Trustees

Expand

Terry_Murphy_TrusteeTerry is an interim management consultant currently working with an NHS Trust dealing with strategic property and asset management and capital projects. He was a director of NHS Estates for a number of years and worked as a civil servant at the Department of Health. Terry has lived in Wokingham for more than 30 years and been actively involved in charity work and as a governor of a local school during this time.

Working in healthcare Terry is aware of the need for the pre and post bereavement services offered by Daisy’s Dream and how this plays such an important role in moving forward from traumatic events for young people. The need for this service and the work involved in ensuring Daisy’s Dream can provide the funding for these activities is stimulating and enjoyable work knowing how well these services are valued by the local community. It is a rewarding experience as a Trustee supporting the work of Daisy’s Dream and helping the charity to continue to grow its services in this vital area.

Kevin Morrison

Honorary Treasurer

Expand

Kevin was introduced to Daisy’s Dream through a business contact and was immediately impressed by the enthusiasm of the team and with feedback received in relation to the work they do.  After spending time learning about the services and challenges of the charity he was keen to contribute to the organisation and he joined the team as trustee in 2016.

Kevin hopes that his previous governance experience as chair of a school governing body together with his professional skills will result in positive contribution to the team.  Having previously held a number of finance based roles in a range of companies within the distribution and recruitment sectors, Kevin is currently a partner with a Thames Valley based firm of chartered accountants.

Outside of his work, his spare time is spent cycling and attempting to learn the saxophone, although not at the same time!
