Tips to support someone who’s grieving…

Grief Awareness Week,  is taking place between the 2nd – 8th December 2025 and this year’s theme is “Growing with Grief”.

“After that loss, we can’t go back to who we were, but instead, we can grow into someone new shaped by love, memories, and resilience. This growth doesn’t erase the pain, but it allows HOPE to return. We may even become more present, more compassionate, more aware of what truly matters in life.”

If you’re supporting a friend, colleague, or family member who is grieving, we’ve shared some simple and meaningful ways to help.

Tips to support a someone who’s grieving…

1. Ask, don’t assume.

It’s okay to gently check in. Try:

“How are you doing today?” or “I’m here if you ever want to talk.” Let them set the pace — every person’s grief looks different.

2. Include them.

Invite them to join meetings, lunch, or social moments without pressure. Small gestures show they’re still part of the team and not forgotten.

3. Listen.

You don’t need to offer solutions or “fix” anything.

Sometimes the most supportive thing you can do is simply listen and acknowledge what they’re feeling.

4. Be patient.

Grief isn’t linear. Some days will be tougher than others.

Give them space, flexibility, and understanding as they navigate their own timeline.
